One of the most obvious and certain facts is that our life is limited. We’re constantly reminded of this through the death of loved ones, accidents, health scares, the daily news, etc, etc. It’s everywhere, yet we often live our lives as if our time is limitless: time to really live for God, to love and to put things right.

The king in Daniel 5 was living as if he had all the time in the world, even though the political reality was that the end was very close. God in his mercy miraculously intervenes to snap him out of his stupor. A key point in God’s message to him is that his days are numbered. In his case, the number was less than 1.

Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90 is a great one for us to be praying and living: Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Doing this will give us wisdom in working out priorities, passions, where we direct our energies.

Think of it this way, If you only had 30 days to live, how would you spend it?
