On Saturday last week, I had the privilege of officiating the wedding of a couple from this church. The ceremony was in the morning, but the reception is at night somewhere else. So, we went home first. I was so tired, I decided to take a nap while Maria looked after the kids. I know…the number one husband in the world right?
Anyway, we planned to leave around 5.45pm, so I knew I had to wake up before 5pm to take a shower and get ready. But lo and behold, Maria woke me up and said, “Hey… wake up. It’s already 5.30. I was half asleep and asked, “5.30?” “Yeah…5.30” “5.30??” “Yeah, 5.30.” “Really?! 5.30?!” I quickly woke up and got ready. Thank goodness we weren’t late for the reception. We missed the pre-dinner drinks though. :(
That’s what Paul is saying to the Roman Christians in Romans 13:11. As Christians, we must wake up from our spiritual slumber, take off our ‘pyjamas’ of darkness, put on the armor of light, and put on Jesus Christ. We must live watchfully knowing that Jesus may return anytime, like a thief in the night.
