What is worship? How should we worship God?
The song ‘Heart of Worship’ was made famous by Matt Redman at the turn of millennium. Part of the lyrics goes like this:
I’ll bring You more than a song, for a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart
Yes, God is looking into our heart. Our whole life springs forth from our heart. So the song is not wrong in and of itself. However, with so much focus on the heart in terms of emotion or experience, I fear Christians may have lost sight that worship is more than just our heart or our attitude.
Apostle Paul says in Romans 12:1 that we worship God through our actions – with our hands, feet, eyes, ears, etc. It does start with our mind that is renewed to the truth. But it has to manifest in tangible actions, especially in the way we love one another. Are we using all parts of our body in a way that is holy and acceptable to God as our act of worship?
