When is the prime of your life? Scientists predict we will peak physically at roughly 25 years old, and mentally in our mid-thirties. What about your spiritual life?
The bible encourages a life of constant spiritual progress. The Apostle Paul, even with all his credentials, continues to “press on toward the goal” of knowing and glorifying Christ (Phil 3:14). Similarly, Peter encourages us to make every effort to constantly grow in godliness (2 Pet 1:5-8). God’s vision for the Christian life is not that we would slow down, but that we would continue on in maturity and love as we age.
You may have heard the phrase “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. The expectation is that as we age, we get used to doing things a certain way and become too stubborn to change. That shouldn’t be us! God gives us his Spirit so that our character would constantly mature in godliness, even in our old age. May life be a never-ending pursuit to be shaped in the likeness of Christ:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. (2 Cor 4:16)
