‘Tis one of the very few occasions that bring the world together, as all kinds of people in all places look forward to the new year with new hope and new expectations. There is a sense that we can reset our life as the clock tick-tocks to 12 o’clock that midnight. There is a sense that we have another chance in life to make amends, to redirect the course of our life, or simply to forget what is behind. It is energizing, and it creates new momentum. That is why, although you can theoretically do this anytime you want, you seize the turn of the year as the excellent opportunity to make some resolutions to shape you to be the persons you want to be.
In a way, repentance is like that. We make the radical U-turn, we reset the direction of our life, and we resolve to make the necessary lifestyle changes. So, before that fireworks lit up Melbourne sky, take stock of your life: which aspects of your life that do not align with who you are or what you want to be, and what you will commit to doing in the new year.
