During his first missionary journey, Paul preached the gospel in a few cities in the province of Galatia (a region of present-day Turkey). Many people believed the gospel, became believers and formed churches in those cities. However, upon Paul’s departure, false teachers started to cause troubles in Galatia. After hearing what had happened, Paul wrote his letter to the Christians in Galatia hoping to counter these false teachings and to encourage the Galatians to return to the real gospel.
Paul’s letter to the Galatians, written almost 2000 years ago, is very much relevant to us even today. As we study this epistle together, may we have an increasing understanding of the real gospel, so that we will grow in our love for God and one another as a result.
