“I don’t know what to do?” “I don’t know what to think?” These are common questions that I’m sure we have all asked and heard others asking, often with great anguish. There are so many perplexing problems that we come up against, so many times when our own wisdom and the wisdom of others seems to fall drastically short. That’s because God didn’t make us to live on our own ‘wisdom’, but to live by his wisdom.
Paul talks of the wisdom of God as a “secret and hidden wisdom” (1 Cor 2:7). It needs revealing, to be available to us. That can only happen by the Spirit of God who knows the mind of God and lives in every believer. Believer in Christ. This wisdom is not some clever way of thinking, or complicated philosophy. It is Christ Himself who is “the wisdom of God” (1 Cor 1:24). More specifically, Christ crucified. The wisdom we are called to live by is the wisdom that lives in the shadow of the cross, and is overshadowed by the cross. Every thought, action, decision and desire captive to the One who loved us so much He died to rescue us from our own sin and folly, and who lives to keep us safe in his grip. It’s the kind of wisdom that is not limited by our intellectual ability (or lack of it), but is as great as the love and power of our Saviour. Let’s keep trusting him and living for him!
