It’s been a tough week for the church with the conviction of George Pell on child sex offences. It’s easy to point the finger and say that we would never do that. And I pray fervently that none of us would. But the stark reality is that apart from God’s redeeming and restraining grace, we are all capable of inflicting serious pain on our fellow human beings. That’s why it’s so important that we be full-on in helping one another to become more like Jesus. Our vision to know Christ, Grow in Him and Proclaim Him isn’t just a nice thing to do. The very future of our church and us as individuals depends upon it. As we commit ourselves to becoming more and more like Jesus, living with him as the ruler of our lives, God does his great work of changing us from the inside out, and reaches out to others through us.
There’s another better reason for doing it – Jesus gave his life to rescue us, and He so deserves our love, gratitude and obedience.
